As part of the digital design apprenticeship at NCUC, I was given the compelling challenge of creating a video presentation about my ‘professional-self’. This task was not just a mere introduction, but a deep dive into what I do, how I do it, and most importantly, what drives me. This journey was to explore my past, showcase my present, and articulate my aspirations for the future. The video was a means of introducing myself to my peers, tutors, and to also capture my progress towards the apprenticeship occupational duties. The brief emphasized the importance of being audience-centric, ensuring that the content was not only tailored for them but also engaging, playful, and memorable.
Embarking on this project, I began by identifying my target audience, understanding their expectations, and establishing the personas representing key audience groups. I strived to make the experience human and personal, ensuring it would resonate with everyone. I delved into my own history, interviewed peers and colleagues to gain multiple perspectives, and showcased the tools and processes that have become an integral part of my professional journey.
During the production phase, I participated in workshop-based tasks which aided in refining my idea and mastering the appropriate technologies. Though the allure of high-end production was tempting, I prioritized compelling communication over flashy visuals. My focus was on my story, its authenticity, and its relevance to the audience. Using a mix of phone footage, stock images, and videos, I aimed to create a narrative that was both engaging and reflective of my journey.
The creation of this video was not just a task; it was a transformative journey. It allowed me to introspect, evaluate, and articulate my professional trajectory. More than an assignment, it was a mirror to my growth, my aspirations, and my vision for the future. It was a challenge that pushed me to be not just a digital content producer but a storyteller, intertwining my experiences with the expectations of the audience. As I present this video in my portfolio, I hope it serves as a testament to my commitment to self-improvement, self-reflection, and my passion for digital design.
